NOL's CEO, Lieutenant-General Ng Yat Chung

No need to try to do detailed study of Maersk line’s results vis-a-vis NOL’s.
Maersk Line, operator of the world’s largest container ship fleet, steamed to a profit of US$227m after losses of US$95m a year earlier and US$599m in the previous quarter. NOL “on underlying earnings” made US$7m. Actually “Net loss for the three months ended June 29, 2012, stood at US$118 million, which widened from a net loss of US$57 million for the same period a year ago. This result – which marks the sixth straight quarter of losses – missed market expectations of a net loss of US$67.6 million, a Bloomberg poll of six analysts showed: by 76%,” earlier article (‘Scholar, ex-SAF chief & Temasek MD fails to turnaround NOL‘).
And Maersk Line is expecting to be profitable this financial year, while NOL says “outlook is uncertain”. And our guy is a scholar, general, ex-SAF chief and ex-Temasek MD. Interestingly Maersk turned around despite the problems in Europe. For historical reasons, most of its revenue comes from ships sailing to Europe, unlike NOL which depends on revenue from ships sailing to the US, which is in better shape than NOL.
Sure hope this CEO is not from RI.

Editor’s note: To answer Cynical Investor, our Lieutenant-General (NS) Ng Yat Chung was from Hwa Chong Junior College. In 1978, at the Inter-school Mathematical Competition organized by the Singapore Mathematical Society, he came in 2nd. He received $75 for his efforts (http://sms.math.nus.edu.sg/smsmedley/Vol-07-1/Annual report 1978.pdf).

Compare Maersk line with NOL?
Machiam compare Apple with Creative....
It's a fucking insult.

How is this possible? Maersk is a Danish conglomerate. Denmark is a welfare state. People in welfare states are lazy. How then is it possible that these lazy ang mohs can perform better than hardworking Singaporeans? Besides, Yat Chung is a Cambridge and Stanford alumnus leh. Mai siao siao.

Steve Jobs was nothing compared to PM Lee Hsien Loong. PM Lee Hsien Loong has a degree from Cambridge and an MPA from Harvard. Steve Jobs leh? Didn't even complete college. LOL :D

Only the fucktard PAPzis will try to hoodwink others that being good in studies is all that is needed in the real world. The real world needs problem solvers and entrepreneurs who are intelligent. The PAPzis and their scholars should stay in school for life since they are so good at it.

seen it all too often...

bright young sg fella went through 20 years of stressful sg education system end up with all the certs money can buy. End up working for ang mo from 'lazy' countries who had all the childhood money can't buy.

Either that, or the sg fella grow up to be chief of local company and end up eaten by lazy angmo rival coys....

the exceptions are too few and far between

talk about hardworking Singaporeans, anybody seen Kinana today? :D

Last heard, after being banned last nite, Kinana straight away reported to PAP HQ at Bedok South for an urgent meeting with his bosses.. He'll be back here later today..

It's been 50 years and the PAPzis have yet to provide even one real true scholar who can be both entrepreneur and successful regionally. We don't even have to look globally. All they have going for them is the GLCs exchanging fat contracts at the expense of higher prices for Singaporeans. Once they venture into regional or global business without these huge fat capitalist cronyism, they fail miserably and rightly so because they fall short of the required intelligence, entrepreneurship, leadership and problem solving skills. They are truly losers who cannot make it but as long as they are paid millions each year they will continue their incestuous relationship with the PAPzis even to the detriment of the entire country for generations to come.

They brought their schooling mentality over to their working life and that's why all GLCs are like schools but disguised as a tip top corporations.

What? You expected a fat scholar fuck, Kim Jong Il's long-lost brother, to achieve success in NOL?

Unless the SAF scholarship system is revamped, and stops churning out these paper scholar generals/admirals by the boatloads, nothing will change.

But the PAP will never do it, because this very system maintains its status quo.

Would having the Great Ponder (ex-Navy chief) at NEA would have been a better choice?

PAP believe if you can ace your exams you can be successful in every aspect of life, including commanding and conducting a war to running a country or even a small business like NOL. Lol.
