We thank you for the feedback on McDonald’s Doraemon Lucky Charms collection.



We excluded Doraemon “pig” design in the collection with the intention to be sensitive to the Muslim customers. It was also decided to include the “cupid” design to commemorate Valentine’s Day which coincides with the first day of the Lunar New Year. We seek our customers’ understanding that it has never been our intention to be disrespectful towards any religion or culture.



We are humbled by this experience and have taken note of all our customers’ feedback, so that we can better serve everyone in future.

Very structured reply falling short of admiting that they are wrong and insensitive to others. Islam is not the ONLY religion on this island and McDonald want to initiate civil unrest with this statement.

I think MacD bumbled big time. If they want to be sensitive, then they should not have the Ox as well as Ox comes from the bovine family of cattle, which cows also fall into out of respect for the Hindus.

Based on reports in the media and talking to some of my Muslim colleagues, they felt that McD over-reacted cos it's just a toy and a part of Chinese culture which they accept and respect. It's not that it's the real pig or made of pigskin mah?

McDonald is an American franchise. I'd not be surprised that most (if not all) anti-terrorist and religious sensitivity directives sent down from their corporate HQ are Islam related. Anyway Chinese zodiac toy set is a silly marketing campaign to begin for McD. They should stick to American kid cultural icons like movie or comic superheroes.
