<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I REFER to Thursday's report, 'Hard to get that first flat? Not so'.
In the past weeks, there has been a fair amount of negative sentiment against the Housing Board over flat availability.
I urge Singaporeans not to forget what the HDB has done for so long for which we should be thankful.
Most Singaporeans have forgotten that HDB was set up to solve the gargantuan problem of providing high-standard public housing for all.
HDB has worked hard. How can we say it has done a bad job? Do we live in villages like our forefathers?
Second, are HDB flats really unaffordable?
If one compares buying an HDB flat with buying a condominium or landed property, the cash needed upfront for an HDB flat is minimal. A buyer who sets aside a few hundred dollars a month for a few years will have no problem with the down payment.
There is no excuse, especially for young professionals and executives. HDB also has grants and comprehensive loan schemes with interest rates lower than market standards.
To meet rising expectations and the desire for choice, HDB offers a myriad of options in new homes.
Statistics revealed by National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan show that a large number of Singaporeans allocated a flat reject the offer. Surely, Singaporeans are spoilt for choice.
The only identifiable issue is thus over-selectiveness by some individuals.
Some do not wish to live on a low floor, others refuse anything less than a brand-new flat.
A solution is private property, but with greater freedom of choice comes an understandable price premium.
Some Singaporeans have short memories. They do not remember being offered flats by HDB on multiple occasions and tend to overestimate the number of applications.
I am sure the figures are well documented.
Thank you, HDB, for your hard work all these years.
Dr Lee Kin Weng

Dear makapaaa,

This is how they play with the Singaporeans who want to have a good HDB...

We are not talking about a small commitment here, it's definitely no spare change to buy a HDB flat now adays.

Everyone deserve their choice, and also a heavily subsidized pricing for SINGAPOREANS who served NS, and their family.

And giving those 2nd floor HDB flats to Singaporeans without NS served, and PRs, and also all those units that are with blocked view, and with bad fengshui to be given to them as priority, and that will solve the problems of housing the PRs & newbie Singaporeans. Also, not to forget those unit number with alot of 444 (some idiot builders didn't consider the culture of Singapore, and actually built some units riddled with number 4... may all these units be given to the above-mentioned as priority)

Take a look at www.hdb.gov.sg and go see ANG MO KIO Teck Ghee Vista N3RC10 Project, almost the entire floors with number #03-447 to #21-447 are NOT taken, as an illustration.

HDB flat are NOT AFFORDABLE anymore, it's really a load of bullshit, I've did a little financial calculation and figured that you'll be perpetually in debts when you own a HDB now adays, and you'll be an old fuck when you retire, with the flat paid out, and with no savings left, you're forced to sell your HDB Flat, and retire on the proceeds... downgrade, and go to JB? man... is this going to be the future for our SONs and Daughters?

Anyways, something to lighten the mood, the VIDEO, I'm the boss is a great representation of HDB... just enjoy the VIDEO.

I wonder if DR LEE KIN WENG stays in a HDB? If not then what the fook is he praising HDB for? If he is, then he must be a low class doctor. A doctor staying in HDB is a blardy disgrace!!!!!

May be this doctor wannabe is from the young PAP, trying to impress his political masters.

Paying $1000 plus every month for 30 years for a pigeon hole is no joke. Just 10 or 15 years down the road and if you lose your job, you got to sell your flat and probably at a loss when you buy now at peak prices.
