Not wheelchair-friendly at all
Letter from Ryman Lim 05:55 AM Nov 05, 2009

I HAVE a funny, sad experience to share.

My block of flats recently completed its Lift Upgrading Programme exercise, but the way the lift landings have been designed, all residents have to climb up or down a half-flight of stairs to get from the corridor to the lift.

The Housing and Development Board even pasted blue stickers at the landings stating that the lifts are now "wheelchair-friendly".

I am wheelchair-bound. When I approached the HDB, I did not expect such an indifferent response from them. The HDB insisted that the residents voted for a lift landing of this design, and the vote was final, with no special consideration to be given to wheelchair-bound residents like myself.

So, what do I do now? <!-- / message --><!-- edit note -->

Get Up and walk...that is what the HDB is saying!...the residents voted for it!!!...the residents can walk..why can't you?...it is wheel chair friendly..but people using the lifts or pasting the stickers are not wheel chair bound... we have two good legs, we are called "lesser mortals"...those lower than that, are "soylent green"...auto opt-in, Euthansia cases...it is time for DINOSAURS elimination....heh heh heh
