He is Mr Peter Ong, who will continue to be Permanent Secretary of the Trade and Industry Ministry, said the Public Service Division in a statement yesterday.
Mr Ong, 47, will join Mr Teo Ming Kian, 56, who remains the Finance Ministry's Permanent Secretary.
Mr Teo is also Permanent Secretary of National Research and Development in the Prime Minister's Office.
He has held both positions since 2006.
Mr Ong, a Colombo Plan scholar, holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) degree from the University of Adelaide and a Masters in Business Administration from Stanford University.
A civil servant for more than 20 years, he started in the Administrative Service in 1986.
His first job was in the then Ministry of Communications and Information.
Moving up the ladder, he has held key appointments in the Civil Service College and Ministry of Home Affairs.
From 1998 to 2000, he was seconded to government investment holding company Temasek Holdings as its executive vice-president.
He returned to the civil service in 2001, when he was appointed Second Permanent Secretary (Defence).
A year later, he became Permanent Secretary (Transport) and in 2005, was appointed to his current trade and industry position. Currently, he is also chairman of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, and sits on the board of directors of DBS Group Holdings and DBS Bank.
