M’sia capable of handling disaster, terrorist incidents: US diplomat

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is capable of handling disasters, managing terrorist incidents and offering emergency responses to other affected countries, said a diplomat here.

Timothy Leeds, Regional Security Officer at the United States Embassy here, said the country has wide-ranging security forces and agencies to deal with such incidents.

He also said that it was vital for agencies to enhance collaboration with public service officials responsible for planning, coordinating and managing emergency responses.

He was speaking to reporters after attending the closing of the "Critical Incidents Management" course held at the Royal Malaysia Police College, here Friday.

Malaysia has long been known internationally as among the countries capable of providing security forces and competent officers in humanitarian aid and disaster recovery.

Meanwhile, Royal Malaysia Police College Deputy Commandant SAC Mohd Shahrizan Che Mat Din said in his speech earlier that the course was designed for police and various national security agencies responsible for managing emergency response and operations during critical incidents.

"This course focuses on a comprehensive national approach to crisis incident management, strategies for effectively managing terrorist incidents, time sensitive decision-making and best practices for recovery and response," he said. - Bernama
