SINGAPORE: Three hundred and sixteen "Service Stars" have been recognised at this year's Transport Gold Awards for going the extra mile in ensuring smooth public transport journeys for Singaporeans.
Service staff from 14 transport companies received their awards from Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew on Tuesday.
The awards were organised by the Singapore Kindness Movement, in collaboration with the Land Transport Authority and Traffic Police.
Mr Lui said service providers serve as the touchpoints with commuters in the public transport system and play a key role in enhancing the daily commuter experience for many.
"Nothing beats a warm 'hello' or a simple greeting from a bus captain in the morning; a friendly smile from station staff as tired commuters make their way home on the MRT; or a helping hand with the travel luggage from a cabby after a long flight home," said Mr Lui.
Mr Lui said as the government pumps in more resources to significantly increase public transport capacity and improve the connectivity of transport nodes, the role of service and support professionals will only become more important.
