Quote:SINGAPORE - The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT will be implementing enhancements to increase the reliability of the Bukit Panjang LRT. - See more at: http://www.straitstimes.com/news/si...improve-bukit-panjang-lr#sthash.9jhwJajN.dpuf The measures will cost up to millions, said SMRT, who declined to reveal the exact figure. SMRT will replace the power rail brackets at crossings to address the issue of traction power tripping and the loss of power to the train cars. Cameras will also be installed on the under frame of train cars to monitor the alignment and contact between the power-drawing collector shoes and power rails. SMRT said it will also add 26 more staff at stations across the line, who can drive trains and resolve technical faults. The Bukit Panjang LRT, which opened 16 years ago, has been hit by several disruptions this year. In April, a dislodged current collector shoe resulted in a 90-minute disruption, affecting 10,000 commuters. The whole system had to be shut down for almost a day in March, after an electrical fire broke out in a station. The Bukit Panjang LRT has a daily ridership of 54,000. |
