Lost shoe costs hiker several teeth
IPOH: A hiker lost several teeth when he retrieved his shoe which had fallen into a river during a trip up Gunung Korbu.
A. Amirkhan, 21, from Taman Gamuda here, is also believed to have cracked his jaw in the mishap that occurred about three hours after he and his three friends began the hike on Saturday.
Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Zulkifli Mohamad said Amirkhan had tried to retrieve his shoe, which dropped into the river, but fell into the water while doing so.
“He lost several teeth and may have cracked his jaw. He was bleeding from his ears,” Zulkifli said yesterday.
According to Zulkilfli, Amirkhan’s friends managed to pull him to safety and called for help. “They managed to send an SMS to their guide, who was based at the foot of the hill,” he said.
Zulkifli said his department received a distress call from the guide at about 5.30pm and began a search and rescue mission. “It took us three hours to get to the hikers’ camp.
“We helped Amirkhan downhill after checking his blood pressure and giving him some pain killers,” Zulkifli said, adding that Amirkhan was then taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.
