While this may be ego busting for many students, if you think about it logically it actually makes a lot of sense for both employers and students.

Regardless of what some people may fantasize, the employment market for fresh grads has never been equal. Management programs in top MNCs and scholar schemes in the public sector are almost always targeting exclusively top students no matter what BS "equal opportunity" ethos they claim on their website or recruitment materials.

Having an exclusive career fair allows employers to spend more time to understand the students' expectations, elaborate the work responsibilities and organization culture rather than waste time entertaining loads of random students which the employer has zero interest and yet has to waste resources to pretend that they care about in order to be politically correct.

For vast majority of the students it is beneficial time wise as well - they can focus on jobs that they actually have a possibility of getting into instead of wasting time asking questions, researching the company or applying with HR holding on to a hope they can get something when the reality is their CVs were automatically deleted by a software filter.

In an ideal world students are supposed to be smart enough to figure out which companies and jobs they can realistically apply for, but it seldom happens in real life. I know a recruiter for one of the MBB firms who tells me how she would get applications and questions from SIM or other private uni grads and she would always feel frustrated trying to respond to them without sounding rude or arrogant.

That is meritocracy...why are we moaning about? It is like taking the budget airline flight, you pay more, you get to queue in front first. You pay like the rest, you still get to queue, you still get to go through the gate, you still gets your seat, that is meritocracy. But, you pay more, you get the best seats, you get to go first in the queue.

SINGAPORE - Nanyang Technological University (NTU) says it "regrets" holding a career fair last month aimed at top-performing students, adding that it will open the event to the entire graduating cohort next year.

Regardless of grades, students will be allowed to submit their resumes on a website for employers taking part in an NTUtopia career fair next year to consider in advance.

"Last month, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) held a career fair, which students said exclusively targeted those from scholar programmes or with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.75 out of 5 "

on a serious note if you cannot score at least 3.75 out of 5 in uni, you should really go fuck yourself. an average B+ (4/5) is all you need to hit it. in my uni life my lowest cap per sem was at least 4.2 or something like that and I already felt disappointed with myself then. those who complain should really go jump
