Lorry ploughs into shophouses
IPOH: Three shophouses were badly damaged when a lorry driver lost control of the vehicle and ploughed into the row of buildings in Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (formerly Jalan Kuala Kangsar), near Chemor.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Azisman Alias said the upper floor of the three buildings – a barber shop, a fishing tool shop and an empty lot – collapsed after its pillars were damaged in the 8.15am incident yesterday.
“The lorry, heading towards Ipoh from Kuantan, is believed to have skidded and swerved into the opposite lane before crashing into the shophouses,” he said yesterday.

He added that the fallen debris also damaged a car that was parked nearby.
ACP Azisman said lorry driver Mat Lazim Osman, 51, sustained light injuries on his leg.
“Fortunately, there were no people near the buildings and no fatalities were reported,” he added.
