A lorry driver who went for his morning tea returned 45 minutes later to find out he’d run over a man.

This gruesome incident happened at 5.45am on 23 June near Kranji Road.

The victim, a 23-year-old Indian worker called Sadish is believed to have been drunk and fallen asleep by the side of the road. He died instantly when the lorry crushed his head and chest.

According to the driver of the lorry, a 50 year-old man known only as Mr Zhu, he parked his vehicle at his usual location without realising that he ran over someone. “I have worked here for 18 years and this is the first time something like this happened. I feel very bad,” said Mr Zhu.

He added that when he parked the vehicle, it was still dark and there were a few crates blocking his view. A witness at the scene, a 43 year-old lorry driver who is only known as Mr Lin, said that when he went to work that day, he saw a drunk man lying by the side of the road. According to him, the man’s body was on the footpath while his legs were on the road.

He returned to the location after hearing screams and saw the man under the lorry. At this point, the driver of the lorry was nowhere in sight. Mr Zhu was arrested on the spot. A spokesperson from the police have confirmed the case and said they are investigating.
