The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared loneliness to be a global issue and has launched an international commission to combat it.

Earlier this week, the WHO launched the Commission on Social Connection, which, according to a news release, aims "to address loneliness as a pressing health threat, promote social connection as a priority and accelerate the scaling up of solutions in countries of all incomes."

The group is led by U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy and African Union Youth Envoy Chido Mpemba and also includes "11 leading policy-makers, thought leaders and advocates," per the release.

The new commission will run for the next three years and will look at how loneliness and social isolation can affect physical, mental and emotional health, with Murthy, 46, suggesting that the effects can be just as bad as smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day, and even greater than those seen in relation to obesity and not maintaining one's physical health.

“I am thrilled to work closely with an outstanding group of Commissioners on advancing social connection – a vital component of well-being. Together, we can build a world that is less lonely, healthier, and more resilient,” Murthy said in a statement.

He added, “Given the profound health and societal consequences of loneliness and isolation, we have an obligation to make the same investments in rebuilding the social fabric of society that we have made in addressing other global health concerns, such as tobacco use, obesity, and the addiction crisis.“

In a statement of her own, Mpemba, 35, said, “Young people are not immune to loneliness. Social isolation can affect anyone, of any age, anywhere."

"Across Africa and beyond, we must redefine the narrative around loneliness," she continued. "Investments in social connection are critical to creating productive, resilient and stable economies that promote the well-being of current and future generations."

Humans are social creatures, & NEVER meant to be lonely, so as to share the joys & wonders of this World, despite in present days also the horrors, & find consolation in each other, with love, as NONE is perfect but only flawed, as each had been gifted with Free Will.

With Free Will, EACH Human has the power to release oneself from the chains of loneliness - just reach out to others, take TIME to know another person well, opening up oneself, before ever allowing the relationship to proceed any further...

Regardless if one is white or black, fat or thin, with physical defects or delusive perceptions, old or young, LOVE transcends all. We are & WILL ALWAYS be Humans 1st, before differences set us apart. The journey of life is long, filled with wonders & needs to be shared, even horrors to comprehend, discuss & elevate each above such fears & NONE needs to live it in loneliness..

The building blocks of Civilization begins with the family, as none is born out of a vacuum, but of love...& to share it with others in such eventful journey of life to build upon such for innocent generations to come, to know the beauties of this wonderous natural world despite the horrors & help to eliminate such for them to experience the precious gift of life..

We all make mistakes in life. It is such how we Humans can learn, acknowledge them, pay the price. correct & progress for the future, as there never is perfection in others & especially even in oneself. Have courage...it begins by making platonic friends, at school, at work, at play & know each well & build upon such....

I prefer to be alone. More peaceful. Everything at your own pace. If need companion, just walk to the pub.

Pubs are also recreational places, but sadly where one night stands behavior exists, although admittedly, serious long term relationships may be found.

When morning comes, nothing if often remembered, & eventual loneliness returns.

One is only as good as lust - money or sexual gratifications, are fulfilled..... It's only ONE night of FANTASY, or at most a few nights of patronage & ends when boredom or complication results, but the meaningful SHARED journey of life is LONG & never meant for loneliness & needed compromises to build a BETTER with another of the opposite sex for a lasting FUTURE TOGETHER & evolution of all Humankind, beginning with couples as one....
