We have studied the new political situation and thought how it can affect the future. We have made our contributions to the development of Singapore. The time has come for a younger generation to carry Singapore forward in a more difficult and complex situation.
The difficult and complex situation was created by the gahmen. If they had heard the bleating of the lambs over the past 5 years especially, they would have heard the calls for help. The likes of Lim Shit Say that they do NOT ever listen to anyone best summarises the self-inflicted pain.
The Prime Minister and his team of younger leaders should have a fresh clean slate. A younger generation, besides having a non-corrupt and meritocratic government and a high standard of living, wants to be more engaged in the decisions which affect them.
They keep thinking it is just the young who did them in. It is the old, who have sacrificed in the past via mandatorily cut CPFs, elbowed out of lower paying jobs by FTs, and walking around at 5-00am to collect overnight beer cans and then selling tissue papers for 8 hours a day, who suffered the most.
After a watershed general election, we have decided to leave the cabinet and have a completely younger team of ministers to connect to and engage with this young generation in shaping the future of our Singapore.
It is NOT a generational gap. They still don't get it - it is a COMMUNICATIONS gap, where they refuse to listen or if they hear, they ignore.Grandfathers have NO problem communicating with their toddler grandchildren!
But the younger team must always have in mind the interests of the older generation. This generation who has contributed to Singapore must be well-looked after. Seriously, I don't know what to say. This is THE legacy they are leaving behind - poor old folks who helped built this country but totally ignored iin their old age. And the sandwiched class have to look after three generations. Remember Vivian's famous last words - 'the biggest regret of my life'.
