It was recently reported that veteran getai singer Angie Lau, 54, is in poor health after suffering a cancer relapse.
Angie is the winner of the second season of Mediacorp’s reality singing competition, GeTai Challenge in 2018. She’s also a mentor on Golden Age Talentime, and the younger sister of getai star Liu Ling Ling, 60.
On March 26, one of Angie’s singing students, James Quan, took to Facebook to share about her condition, along with a photo of Angie in the hospital.
"With her permission, I would like to share this photo and let you know about her current situation. Angie’s cancer has relapsed. Over the past four months, she has been unable to teach or perform due to her illness, which has troubled her greatly,” he wrote.

"Although she has lost a lot of weight and her complexion is slightly pale, she is bravely facing up to reality and remains determined to recover, especially when she is still single-handedly raising two children who are in secondary school,” he added.
Angie divorced her husband in 2019, and has primary custody of their two kids. According to reports, Angie was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer and lymphoma in 2014. Though she managed to recover soon after, it was recently discovered the cancer has spread to her bones, and advanced to stage four.
In the same post, Angie’s student appealed to friends and members of the public to send Angie a “Get Well Soon Hong Bao” through PayNow, to “help lighten her burden”.
Local media outlet 8world reached out to Angie to find out more.
In their report, they shared that viewers who attended the taping of recent Golden Age Talentime episodes reported that Angie’s voice appeared hoarse and that she seemed to have trouble speaking.
It was later revealed that the last taping for Golden Age Talentime took place between March 15 to 17, and that Angie went to the hospital on March 16, after experiencing trouble speaking on March 15.
Angie spoke to 8world on March 27, where she confirmed that she was hospitalised on March 16, and that she’ll be discharged that day (March 27).
She went on to share that she doesn’t have any health insurance polices, and that the funds in her CPF Medisave account are running out. Angie also confirmed that her two kids, who are in secondary school, are financially dependent on her as well. Thus, recent events have caused quite a strain on her.

Since the reports were published, Angie has received an outpouring of support from netizens and celebs.
In a post on her Facebook, Angie wrote in English: "Appreciated all the help and wishing all abundance of merits in return (sic).”
Local celeb Pornsak also went on Instagram to urge everyone to help out if they are able to.
The 41-year-old host shared that he first met Angie on GeTai Challenge and added more details about Angie’s condition in his caption.
“Her cancer has relapsed. It has affected her vocal cords, lungs and heart. Recently, it spread to her bones. As a singer and voice coach, this disease has stolen her livelihood from her. She is still single-handedly raising two children who are in secondary school. Let’s help Angie and her children win this battle,” he wrote.
Pornsak also added that he’d lost his mum to cancer when he was a child, and that he doesn’t wish to see it happen to other kids.
