SINGAPORE - Although Singapore's open economy has subject it to greater volatility in the global markets, its growth strategy has served it well in the last five years, according to Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang.

The Republic has grown faster than most economies in the region and faster than any other country with a comparable level of per capita income, he argued.
At the same time, inflation has been relatively low. Past growth has also helped the country to build up healthy balance sheets that enhanced its resilience.
Speaking in parliament on Monday, he explained to Members of Parliament that the reason Singapore's economy has contracted more sharply than others has to do with its small size, openness and dependence on external markets - not the result of its growth strategies.

which growth is he talking about??
growth of debt?
growth in salarly for only their kind?
growth in no. of people killing themselves in this pressure cooker?
growth in the sense on nationless for singporeans?

As I look at the old man in the picture, I cant help wondering what will become of me when I turn old.

My parents will passed on someday, my children will grow up and have own responsibility as parent, perhaps may not live in Singapore.

What left is me and my wife to complete our ageing life.

Will my wife and I collect cupboard, cans, push empty box trolley taking over the older generation? Sorry I dont mean to insult the old ones.

While foreigners living in Singapore like a KING and taking ("steal") our "precious" away and protected by Govt.

Guess the only solution is to retire somwhere else's so long not in Singapore under LKY or the LEE's family.

He is trying his luck to white wash unintellectual sinkies.

Growth si mi lan,,,,,

Which country no growth? Compare with Laos, Mynamar. Thailand, cambodia, afganistan, Iraq amd Iran, we performed much better, but what Heng Heng Lim wanna compare with....

KKNBCCB Ministers

I think what he is trying to say is that we should benchmark ministers and public service salaries again to top commercial earners annual salaries. Reason I think he pai-seh to say "take pay cut". Now top commercial earners annual salary fall because of poor companies' profitability, so likewise when you benchmark to them, naturally it will be lower. So it follows that you benchmark ministers and public service salaries will naturally have to go down. (To be fair and transparent, you cannot just benchmark annually during good times. Have to be done annually whether good or bad times). lol

So everything is beyond your control is it Mr Lim Hng Kiang? I guess over-liberalizing the financial sector is also not within your control? Open the flood gates of foreign workers also not your control? Over heating the property market also not in your control?

Are the above all part of your "growth strategies"??

What a JOKE. Booming economy is your doing while economy failing is nothing to do with you?

You are the god damn Trade and Industry Minister!!! Where is out trade now? Where is our industry now? FUCK.

When i see this HAIDO LIM on TV,I switch on to another Channel, mumbling away and so boring.

Actually, all the governments in the world had sounder strategies than Singapore. It is just that the global economy just went awry. All bankers and governments deserve the high pay more than Singapore does for their splendid work. What is happening now is unexpected and not a problem created from the policies. Which fuck sounds more believable?

Minion Lim is one of those heartless swine who regrets that one of his decisions forced KK hospital to pick up a 300k bill.

what an arse!

Who is going to be the hero and pour thinner on him and set him on fire? :D

That will be the best reply to whatever he is trying to say or explain.

Inflation low? Did they not just say in Parliament that salaries grew 3x since 1970s but housing costs went up 30x?! You call that low? WTF!

Anyone has data on salary growth of other countries compared to 1970s? Compare see our 3x is rank where.
