He said: "I was actually quite puzzled by what Mr Tan Kin Lian said about that the board wanting the cooperatives to be more commercial because to the best of my knowledge, I think to become more commercial, to become more professional are two different things.

This clown of a minister is obviously not aware that being more commercial and being more professional are NOT mutually exclusive. Any first year econoomics or business student will tell you that. Is he even aware that he is talking rubbish? That commercial companies are unable/cannot be professional? A simple case study of the successful companies around the world will show that in order to be successful commercially, companies HAVE to be professional!

And he is getting $2 million+ to spout nonsense like these?

They don't realise that the more attacks they throw at the "non-approved" candidates, the more it is going against TT. TT is a good man, he should never agree to fighting this EP contest - another George Yeo.

What the fuck is he talking about? Did he mistook "Academic" for "Professional"?
I don't know what he is trying to say. There goes our millions given to fuck up idiots like him.

In his case, ZERO costume.

IMO, Zorro is not wrong. One can exercise professionalism in a job or task, for a non profit objective.:)

If forumer Confuseous argument stands, then are we saying we don't expect professionalism in the civil service unless they are commercialized:confused::(

Then why complain about the current standard of services in the civil sectors:confused:

IMO, I just hope to be clear on what is right and wrong. But we know who to vote for, and the pertinent reasons guiding our choice.:)

Being objective and open is our perspectives and arguments is of greater service to Alternative parties.

I may be wrong with my perspective and argument for this thread. Then wack the hell out of my argument. I ok one.:o

A) Taken from wiki on cooperatives(not that wiki is always correct:p):

A cooperative (also co-operative; often referred to as a co-op) is a business organization owned and operated by a group of individuals for their mutual benefit.[1] Cooperatives are defined by the International Cooperative Alliance's Statement on the Cooperative Identity as autonomous associations of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through jointly owned and democratically controlled enterprises.[2] A cooperative may also be defined as a business owned and controlled equally by the people who use its services or by the people who work there. Cooperative enterprises are the focus of study in the field of cooperative economics.

B) One of the meaning of commercial:

3. Having profit as a chief aim

C) One of the meaning of professional:

4. A skilled practitioner; an expert
or
Having or showing great skill; expert

Aiyah, Bro, nothing to whack or not whack lah. You are right, we must be seen to objective to be effective.

Okay, my thought trend. Whether it is a govt dept, charity, stat board or not-for-profit NGO, it is an ORGANISATION, including the 100% for profit or co-operative. No difference. Just an ORGANISATION.

To be successful at what it set out to do (raise funds, protect rare animals, help the one-legged etc) everyone working there got to be professional in order to best utilise the limited resources of money, staffing, market competitiveness. As well as attracting the best people to the organisation to make it even more effective. Hence, my comment that the two things are not mutually exclusive.

not with practical skill this statement i disagree, varies from field to field. in some field graduate studies you day in and out only stays in lab esp those doing synthesis.

Unrepented, he's playing with words again. Using "professional" to disguise "commercial" and in the end objective same. Charge customers more money to spend more money and pay themselves more salary.

Thanks. I know. Thats why I try to make clear the difference and seperation of terms for the readers, to the best of my limited abilities.:(

If a co-op move towards profit making (commercialization) as the main objective, then there will be trails and references. Corner the issue, then slap them back and ask them what did they mean in the very first place. And why a co-op must go for profit when professionalism and profit can be mutually exclusive?

Again thanks for the adviSe. (Sam, chance to get another orgasm:rolleyes:)
