I don't think the wife campaigning or by the spouse's side pre election or at election rallies is the problem.
At the pasir ris grc rallies, there was a photo of all the pappy spouses there as well.
In most countries, the spouse of the candidate frequently follows the candidate around, well we would assume to increase his votes.
The issue is the fact that they have never seemed to grasp the concepts of potential conflict of interest and independence in appearance.
Not independence in fact or actual conflict of interest, which means that oh, there is a real problem, they are colluding to do something funny, in their own interests.
We can take it that independence in fact is not the problem or the issue.
Wooden has publicly declared that LHL was selected by a team of his peers. Dhanabalan has publicly declared that HC was primarily selected by him and the board, nothing to do with LKY or LHL. Fair enough.
What they don't seem to understand is the concept of independence in appearance, which is that you don't have the husband as the leader of the nation and the wife in charge of the country's investment company, because it is simply not appropriate, not whether they are in fact doing anything funny to the detriment of the country. When Bill Clinton was president, was Hilary part of the administration or involved in any way? Ok, some republicans sarcastically say she was running the country from the bedroom, but that's empty talk. The fact is that she had no position when he was president other than first lady.
She's now secretary of state under Obama's administration and Clinton is a nobody, other than earning loads for public speaking and making friends in N Korea and being an american hero. This is called independence in appearance.
