MP Lee Bee Wah charged $1.7K for phone bill
MP LEE Bee Wah went for a four-day holiday in Thailand and returned to find out that she was charged a staggering $1,700 worth of data usage on her mobile phone.
This happened to her a few years ago before she entered into politics.
The MP of Ang Mo Kio GRC, who is currently in Japan, told Shin Min Daily News that she would usually receive office related emails on her mobile phone.
While she was holidaying at Phuket, she had forgotten to switch off the data function in her phone and within four days, accumulated $1,700 worth of data usage.
Ms Lee told the Chinese evening daily that it was a very valuable lesson for her.
She explained that at that point in time, she did not realise that the email function in her phone was still activated and only found out when she received the bill.
Although she brought up the issue to Singtel and was given a discount, she still ended up paying $1,400.
Ever since that incident, she has been urging users who are not familiar with their mobile phones to either seek advice of the functionalities from people who are familiar with the it, or to switch off the data function entirely when travelling overseas.
Ms Lee is currently very satisfied with her Blackberry Bold and reckons that it is a cost-saving device.
She said that ever since she started using this phone, her monthly bill has not exceeded $100.
