<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I REFER to Mr Lawrence Chia's letter last Saturday, 'IDA should check stiff billing by telcos', and thank him for his comments on international roaming and set-top box charges.
We have resolved the matter with Mr Chia when he contacted us on our customer care hotline earlier.
When customers are connected to a mobile network overseas, they will incur roaming charges for the use of mobile services.
Voice call charges are based on a per minute charge for the duration of the call, and the billing information originates from the overseas service provider.
Even though overseas network connectivity issues are beyond the control of the domestic mobile operator, StarHub customers who encounter problems with roaming when overseas can call our customer care hotline on +65 6820-1633. We will be happy to assist them in every way possible.
StarHub's international roaming services are not only competitively priced in the market, but also offer the unique benefit of flat rates that allow customers to know exactly what they are paying for when roaming overseas, as there are clear fixed rates each for voice calls, video calls, SMS and mobile data in each destination.
Regardless of which operator they choose to use to roam at their destination, their roaming service rates remain fixed for that destination, even if they switch among several operators during their visit.
This customer-friendly charging provides our mobile customers with greater transparency and less hassle in checking roaming charges of individual overseas operators.
Our international roaming rates are published on the StarHub website at www.starhub.com/mobile for customers' easy reference.
In respect of set-top box charges, operators around the world either weave their box costs into their content subscription prices or charge a separate fee.
As some of our customers require more than one set-top box in their homes, StarHub decided to separate the box rental fee from the content subscription fee, so those who require only one box do not need to subsidise the cost of the boxes for others.
