MINISTER Mentor Lee Kuan Yew on Saturday asked the Workers' Party to line-up its 'Shadow Cabinet' and name those who can fill the various ministerial posts.

'You must have a Shadow Cabinet. If you watch the British Parliament, there's always a Shadow Cabinet on the opposition benches,' said MM Lee, speaking to reporters at the Radin Mas branch after a meeting with party activists and PAP candidate Sam Tan for the single-seat ward .

'You ask them where is their Shadow Cabinet?' said MM Lee, whose Tanjong Pagar GRC team was returned unopposed on Nomination Day.

'Who is going to be his Finance Minister, who's gong to be his Defence Minister, who's going to be his Minister of Trade and Industry? His Foreign Minister and who is his Prime Minister?'

MM Lee said WP chief Low Thia Khiang is not just eyeing the five-member Aljunied GRC, where he is attempting to make a breakthrough with his top team, but is trying to make more inroads.

'Every opposition party wants to capture more GRCs and form the government. They want to take over the driving seat,' said MM Lee.

'Let's not pretend that it's just to form an opposition and to keep the government on its toes. It is to form the opposition and to trip the government up. You've seen Low Thia Khiang in action.'

It makes sense. If they win a GRC or a couple others, they must form shadow post--eg Slyvia take Home Affairs, YSL take Defence and Foreign etc etc. if all opposition win by a large but not 2/3 margin, they must combine to form a sizeable shadow team and not just have one MP take on every issue. Division of Labour and true Westminister model.
