TOKYO: US military presence remains crucial to the balance of power in Asia, says Singapore's Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.

East Asian security still needs the presence of American forces, so the region can continue its economic growth and balance the emergence of China, a country that is also important for this balance as there is no one country that should dominate Asia.

This was the message from Mr Lee at the 16th annual Nikkei Future of Asia Symposium in Tokyo.

Mr Lee also stressed the need to keep the US bases in Japan. Japan is in the midst of deciding where to relocate the US forces now based in Okinawa, and Mr Lee emphasized that US bases in Japan are necessary to maintain the balance of power in Asia.

Mr Lee said: "We believe that their presence brings about stability and peace. They need a base in the northeast, and if there is no base in Japan, they can't deploy their weaponry and project their power. If Japan closes them off from Okinawa, I think it will be a setback for the deployment of the American forces, which is not to the benefit of Asia."

Minister Mentor Lee also emphasized that Japan might take the Singaporean model to face the problem of an aging population, by opening up immigration and allowing immigrants' integration into the society without compromising local values.

This advise was also followed by DUBAI, and earlier this year, in BBC, there was a debate about FT importation.

DUBAI, during January 2010, have about 2 Million jobless migrants...

And guess where did DUBAI thought of the idea of MASS IMPORTATION OF FTs?

In an economic sense, it's usually the poorer nation's talents that would like to travel to other countries for opportunities, when they see none in their own country.

These kinds of migration is indeed common in the rest of the world.

Earlier this year, the UBS report for Price Earnings of the World 2009, did state that poorer nation's talents are motivated for migration, there is a VIDEO about this in The Economist website.

Rationale is this;

If there are not enough people to sustain the lower level jobs, which is critical for function of the (RICH) nation, then there would be an increase of demand of such lower level jobs, thereby paying a higher payroll.

Which can be noticed in nations like USA, CANADA, and EUROPE.

Their DISHWASHERS, JANITORS, WAITERS... etc... have good pay, good enough for them to afford a good living.

However, in SINGAPORE's case, with so many people coming in to fill the lower level jobs, the jobs were over filled, and there is an over-supply of labour for the no-skill jobscopes, and it over spill to the semi-skill, and the so-called FTs are filling up the skilled jobscopes...

This is really diluting the SINGAPOREAN "CULTURE" if any.

And with so many people hunting for jobs in the job market... naturally, with the people coming from poorer nations, they would naturally be happy with the paycheck, because, it's already higher than their own home country...

Besides, the FTs coming from poorer nations don't have liabilities like Singaporeans, with expensive HDB mortgages (Mortgage is a french word for paying till grave), expensive cost of living, expensive cars.

Without huge liabilities, the FTs are travelling light, and are fighting with SBO, and full ammo, whereas for Singaporeans, have to fight with a heavy FBO, together with families staying in Singapore, so many mouth to feed...

Truly, Ministry of Manpower should do something about this.

The JOB priority should be;

1. SINGAPOREANS (born) + National Service Served.
2. SINGAPOREANS (born) / Females.
3. SINGAPOREANS (converted) + National Service Served.
4. SINGAPOREANS (converted) / Females.
5. Permanent Resident
6. Temporary Resident / with working visa or FTs.

I believe if the above JOB priority is implemented, it will serve as an incentive for people to be SINGAPOREANS.

When there is JOBS, there is income, and when there is income, SINGAPOREANS can AFFORD a living, and only when one can survive, one can think about success, and improvement of self...

With millions of SGD as a paycheck to the ministers of Singapore, why can't they think of something like this, for sure, this policy would gain popular support!

If the Government of Singapore treats the people of Singapore as DAFT, for sure, they will be DAFT. In reality, Singaporeans are highly educated, and they are thinkers, treat them with respect, and they will correspond accordingly.
