Looking at things, it seems that PKR will have to take an even longer time to takeover the government.

Also, it seems that BN is set to be the dominant party yet again.

What talks about changes and money politics are involved?

On one hand, BN is talking about abolishing money politics. On the other hand, it seems that they realized that without money, there can be no power.

PKR is set to be on the losing end (I guess), simply because they do not have a big enough coffer.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Najib to make important announcement on Perak Government

KUALA LUMPUR, Wed:

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is scheduled to hold a Press conference at his Putrajaya office at 4pm to make an important announcement on the status of the Perak Government. Earlier, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin postponed a Press conference scheduled at his office scheduled at 1pm. His aide Wan Ahmad Junaid told waiting reporters who were expecting a major announcement on Perak’s political crisis they would be advised further. No reason was given for the postponement. Details in a moment...
Chronology of events today
10.45am: Members of the media rushed over to Jelapang assemblywoman Hee Yit Foong's house in Taman Ehsan after being tipped-off that she might give a Press conference. It turned out to be a false alarm.

12.30pm: Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin called for an emergency press conference at his office at 1pm but was postponed with no reasons given. However, word has it that he was to announce the dissolution of the Perak assembly.

1.40pm: The wire services issued a flash that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is calling for a Press conference at 4pm in his Putrajaya office, presumably to make an important announcement on the political status of the Perak Government.

3pm: Members of the media rushed to Istana Kinta after learning that Nizar Jamaluddin is seeking an audience with Sultan Azlan Shah.

Defection' drama in Perak

Several PKR reps will cross over, says PM.
* Perak speaker claims two Parti Keadilan Rakyat assemblymen have resigned their seats.
* Election Commission will be asked to hold by-elections in the two constituencies within 60 days.
* Validity of resignation letters questioned by state assemblyman.
KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said that Pakatan Rakyat state assemblymen from Perak would be crossing over to Barisan Nasional.

However, he declined to name them or state how many there were until they formally joined one of BN's component parties, saying that an official announcement would only be made when they had gone through all procedures, such as submitting their membership forms.

Abdullah also stressed that such a crossover was not engineered in retaliation against Pakatan which had on the eve of Chinese New Year, pinched one of BN's assemblymen from Perak.

At least two Perak Pakatan assemblymen -- Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi of Behrang and his Changkat Jering counterpart Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu -- have resigned their seats, according to Perak Speaker V. Sivakumar.
The two Perak executive councillors went into hiding soon after Bota state assemblyman Datuk Nasarudin Hashim defected from Umno to PKR.

"God willing, it will be true," Abdullah responded when asked whether it was true that a number of PKR assemblymen in Perak will be joining BN.

"They want to join because they are confident of Umno's struggle, so we will accept them. When they submit their forms, then we will make an announcement," he said when asked how many assemblymen there were and whether they had formally joined BN.

Abdullah stressed that BN had never instructed its leaders in Perak to engineer the crossovers because of Nasarudin's defection to PKR.

"We have never given out such instructions that because they pinch our people, we will do the same. We have never issued such directives."

He said Umno and BN did not discriminate when it came to choosing its members.

"Whoever wants to join Umno is welcome to do so. We accept them into Umno and BN so that they will gain new experience in fighting for our struggles.

"When we want to increase the party's membership, we open it to all. We do not say this guy cannot join, this guy can join.

"Whoever wants to join can join and it does not matter which party they are from or their position in the party."

Abdullah said he would leave it to civil society to debate and discuss the idea of an anti-party-hopping law.

"We have always given the freedom to politicians to join or change parties and there has been no problem."

Perak gov't on the brink of collapse
Feb 4, 09 12:12pm

Perak Menteri Besar Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin is expected to have an audience with the sultan to seek the dissolution of the state assembly.

If the sultan accedes to the request, a snap state election will have to be called in view of the current political upheaval in Perak.

It is learnt that Nizar is now waiting to be summoned by Sultan Azlan Shah for the audience and will be calling a press conference soon after.

The Pakatan Rakyat-led government is at the verge of collapse in the wake of resignations from three of its state assemblypersons.

Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi (PKR-Behrang), Osman Jailu (PKR-Changkat Jering) and deputy assembly speaker Hee Yit Foong (DAP-Jelapang) had this morning submitted official letters to speaker V Sivakumar to express their intention to become independent representatives.

This afternoon Hee confirmed to reporters in Ipoh that she had resigned from DAP to become an independent.

Two more to defect, Najib to call PC

At the same time, political circles told Malaysiakini that two more Pakatan representatives are in the midst of leaving their parties. They too are expected to become independents.

All five are eventually expected to join BN.

The Perak sultan will now play a pivotal role on whether to agree with Mohmad Nizar in dissolving the state assembly or hand over the state government to the one which commands the majority, which in this case could be BN.

But it appears that the sultan will go for the second option by allowing a transfer of power without a snap poll.

slim majority in perak 040209Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is calling a press conference at 4pm in Putrajaya. It is speculated that he may announced the possible takeover of the state government.

All Perak BN parliamentarians and state assemblypersons have summoned to Putrajaya for Najib's press conference.

With Hee's defection, Pakatan now has 29 seats with DAP (17), PKR (6) and PAS (6), BN has 27 with Umno (26) and MCA (1), and three independents.

Nizar to meet Sultan at 5pm
Wednesday, 04 February 2009 15:27

UPDATED 3pm
By Adib Zalkapli and Shannon Teoh, The Malaysian Insider

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin has obtained an appointment to meet Sultan Azlan Shah at 5pm today in an attempt to head off attempts by the opposition Barisan Nasional to form a new state government.

Nizar will seek the Sultan's consent to dissolve the state assembly amid swirling rumours more Pakatan Rakyat assemblymen are defecting to BN, on top of the three who have turned independent.

BN is expected to make an announcement this afternoon offering to form a new state government in Perak.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has called for a press conference in Putrajaya today at 4pm, and speculation is rife that he will be making the announcement on behalf of BN.

A number of senior BN assemblymen are already making their way to Putrajaya.

It is not clear when BN officials will seek an audience with the Sultan.

Earlier, political circles were buzzing with talk that Sultan Azlan Shah had asked Nizar to form a unity government amid swirling rumours that deputy state speaker Hee Yit Foong has also turned independent.

If her move is confirmed, the Jelapang assemblywoman joins two PKR state assemblymen who have declared themselves independent and makes Nizar's administration a minority government. The Pakatan Rakyat government now holds 29 seats to Barisan Nasional's 27 in the 59-seat assembly.

Nizar has also delayed a press conference scheduled at 1pm which had given rise to speculation that he would dissolve the state assembly.

The menteri besar is hoping to be granted an audience with the Sultan this afternoon to seek consent for the state assembly to be dissolved and pave the way for snap polls.

The PR alliance of PKR, Pas and DAP are confident of winning fresh polls with a bigger mandate.

With their backing, BN will hope to attract even more PR lawmakers to defect.

Constitutional experts have said calling for snap polls is the only way out of the Silver State's political quagmire with the Election Commission refusing to call for by-elections in Behrang and Changkat Jering.

The Pakatan Rakyat government has already given the Election Commission 48 hours from yesterday to reverse its decision.

Social pressure group Aliran has added its voice to objecting the Election Commission's decision, saying it has no inherent powers to decide whether a vacancy has occurred in a constituency.

"Legally there exist no doubts as to the vacancies of these two seats but there are clearly doubts as to why the Election Commission chose to take this decision which is without doubt ultra vires," Aliran president P. Ramakrisnan said in a statement.

He lamented that the decision will perpetuate the problem of party hopping plaguing Perak, saying the razor-thin majority will ensure "the uncertainties of governance will continue to exist to the detriment of the people and their welfare".

"Aliran would also like to appeal to His Royal Highness, the Sultan of Perak, in all humility, to kindly consent to the dissolution of the state assembly as a way to overcome this deadlock," Ramakrishnan said.

Perak PKR, DAP defectors surprise appearance at Najib's office

PUTRAJAYA, Wed:

Bota Assemblyman Nasarudin Hashim, who defected from Umno to PKR last month, made a surprising appearance at the office of Datuk Seri Najib Razak here in Putrajaya. Also making a surprise appearance is the DAP Jelapang assemblyman Hee Yit Foong. The two so-called independent assemblymen who quit PKR, Behrang assemblyman Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi and Changkat Jering assemblyman Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu, have also appeared at Najib’s office.
Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin claimed to have an explanation for Nasarudin's appearance in Putrajaya: he claimed the Bota assemblyman was "taken" from his house in Ipoh by two BN assemblymen supposedly to meet Raja Muda Raja Dr Nazrin Shah in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.

Nizar also claimed that Nasarudin, who defected to PKR last week, was "abducted" by these people to meet Najib.

Nasarudin had announced his defection to the PKR on Jan 25 while Jamaludin and Osman claimed they have left PKR after being treated as outcasts. Prior to today's appearance in Putrajaya, the duo had deemed themselves as independent assemblymen.

Najib is scheduled to give a press conference any moment now to declare that the Barisan Nasional has secured the necessary assemblymen to form a new Perak state government.
This clashes with Nizar's intent of seeking the dissolution of the Perak state assembly when he has an audience with the sultan of Perak at 5pm.

It is now a question of who will prevail with the Sultan of Perak: the BN with the required numbers to form a new state government or the Pakatan Rakyat, which has lost the numbers but wants a snap state election.

3:40pm: Nizar told the NST that he has won an audience with the Ruler at 4pm. Nizar is believed to be seeking for the dissolution of the Perak State Assembly to clear the way for a snap state election.

4:10pm: Perak BN assemblymen are assembling at Najib's office.

Perak govt falls, BN has majority

Newsflash (4:50pm): Barisan Nasional now commands the majority to form the state government in Perak with the return of Bota assemblyman Datuk Nasaruddin Hashim and the support of three independents -- Behrang assemblyman Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi, Changkat Jering assemblyman Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu, DAP’s Jelapang assemblyman and Perak state assembly deputy speaker Hee Yit Foong: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Najib said he would be seeking an audience with Sultan Azlan Shah in a day or two to inform him of Barisan's ability to form the new state government.

Newsflash (4:50pm): Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin is still in audience with Sultan Azlan Shah to seek his consent to dissolve the state assembly. He was seen entering Istana Kinta at 3:50pm.

Newsflash (4:30pm): Behrang assemblyman Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi, Changkat Jering assemblyman Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu, DAP's Jelapang assemblyman and Perak state assembly deputy speaker Hee Yit Foong and Bota assemblyman Datuk Nasaruddin Hashim spotted at the office of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

IPOH: Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said that he will seek consent from Sultan Azlan Shah by 5pm Wednesday to dissolve the state assembly due to increasing uncertainty in the state.

Perak assemblymen Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi (Behrang) and Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu (Changkat Jering)have quit PKR and Jamaluddin said on Wednesday that they were on the way to Putrajaya to join Umno.

Speculation is also rife that DAP’s Jelapang assemblyman and Perak state assembly deputy speaker Hee Yit Foong has defected or at least quit the party.

In the March 8 national polls, PKR won Perak with 32 seats against 27 Barisan seats.

On Tuesday, Nizar had reiterated that he would not be calling for state elections given the political developments of the past week but was prepared for any by-election.

He had said the Pakatan Rakyat government was “very stable” at the moment.

“Despite what has been happening the past week, we are very stable. There is no likelihood of the state legislative assembly being dissolved.

“In fact, we are getting sympathy and support from the people over what is happening.

“Should there be by-elections, not just involving Behrang and Changkat Jering, we are confident of winning the seats,” he had said.

In a The Star SMS poll that ran from Monday to Tuesday, 77.1% of 192 respondents said the best way to resolve the Perak situation would be to dissolve the state government and call for fresh elections.

Hee's service centre in Jelapang has been closed for the Chinese New Year festivities. Attempts to reach her on the handphone or at her house proved futile.

Hee was “missing in action” last Sunday as well, which fuelled rumours of her defection. DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng even came out with a statement stating that any Perak DAP elected representative who was incommunicado for more than 24 hours without reason would find their seats vacated.

At a press conference Sunday night at her residence in Ipoh, Hee hit out at Lim saying she was disappointed by his press statement, adding that he should have investigated first before releasing the press statement.

She quashed claims that she had resigned from Pakatan and joined MCA or Gerakan, saying she was still a DAP member and Jelapang’s elected representative.

“I have never had any intention of leaving the party and would feel very heavy-hearted if I did,” said Hee, who has been with the party for almost 22 years.

On Wednesday, Perak DAP chief Ngeh Koo Ham said he had not received any resignation letter from Hee.
