Kungfu fighting security guard sent for counselling

SINGAPORE : A security guard who was filmed in a kungfu fight with a man outside The Cathay mall on Friday has been sent for counselling.
According to his employer Reachfield Security and Safety Management, the guard, known only as Mak, was attacked when he tried to stop a man from selling keychains at the open plaza outside the mall.
Though Mak, who has a black belt in taekwondo, fought the man in self-defence, Richfield general manager Grace Lim said the company does not condone his actions and is investigating the matter.
The protocol, she said, was to contact the control room.
Contrary to media reports, the 38-year-old guard has not been fired but has been advised to stop work temporarily as a precautionary measure “as we do not want the attacker to return for more trouble."
A video of the fight, which was filmed and uploaded on Facebook by 20-year-old Dinnie Tan on Friday evening, showed Mak and the keychain peddler throwing kicks and punches at each other. They stopped after two men intervened.
