Drag Queen Kumar Reveals That He Actually Has a 30YO Son for 11 Years
On Thursday (6 July), news and media site Our Grandfather Story posted a video, titled “Inside The Private Life of Singaporean Comedian Kumar”, on its Facebook page.

In the 5:23 long video clip, we’re exposed to Kumar’s intense dislike of kids…

…and how he has had a 30-year-old son for 11 years.

It all started 11 years ago, when his friend’s then 18-year-old brother turned up at his doorstep.

The then 18-year-old said that he had fought with his father, and asked Kumar whether he could stay over for a few days.

One day swiftly turned into 11 years.

Apparently, the boy’s parents tried to call him back, but he refused to. When the mum turned up and witnessed the living conditions for herself, she left quietly.

That’s when Kumar realised that he had become a parent. For real.

Anger Issues
It wasn’t all smooth-sailing, though.

For one, Kumar realised that his newfound son had distinct anger management issues. And so he brought the boy to see ex-convicts. Fights would occur occasionally, and when one happens Kumar would ask the boy whether he wanted to be like them.

“So you have to learn how to control yourself,” Kumar told the boy at the time. “Do you want to sit behind bars?”

There was also another time when the boy didn’t want to return home. When questioned why, he said that there was no Playstation 4 at home.

Kumar immediately ran to the mall to get one. It was then that the boy began to stay home more often, staying away from alcohol and trouble in the process.

It also didn’t help that Kumar had friends asking him whether he had touched the boy.

“Just because we’re gay,” Kumar said, “doesn’t mean that we would touch whoever we are parenting differently.”

Kumar’s Growing up Years
Kumar grew up with a really strict dad. If he wasn’t back home in time after school, he would get “whacked.”

And when his mum left them, his dad became addicted to alcohol, and started getting abusive.

“And I think the only thing that reminded him of the failed marriage were the kids,” Kumar said. “So I think he abused us because of that.”

He then said that he would not have been that helpless if someone were to help him back then, and this was why he accepted the boy, Sathin, into his house 11 years ago.

For his part, he has long since forgiven his father. But he never got the chance to tell him.

Till this day, Kumar would call his son whenever he goes overseas. And that’ll likely never change.

“I never dreamed of being a parent,” he said. “So I was very surprised that I can actually give someone so much love, you know?”

“I think people need to learn that nothing beats a family connection.”

Redeemed Singapore’s Honour
Additionally, Kumar has also done Singapore a huge favour.

So you may recall the whole Jocelyn Chia fiasco, during which she made jokes about the MH370 flight.

Which wouldn’t have affected us, except the fact that she’s Singapore-born.

Unsurprisingly, she ended up getting cancelled for her comedic attempts.

On 10 June 2023, Kumar posted a video on his Instagram account, apologising to Malaysians on behalf of Chia and reassuring them that Singaporeans enjoy visiting Malaysia for food, leisure and work.

“Sorry for the hurt that has been caused to the families of those who have lost their loved ones,” he wrote.

Keep flying high, Kumar.
