Kuantan knee-deep in water

KUANTAN: Several parts of the town were knee-deep in water following a 48-hour downpour. Residents in Taman Pelindung Pantai and Kampong Pelindung Pantai said the water was about a metre deep at about 7am yesterday, but rose to waist level an hour later.

However, by 11am, the water had receded to knee-deep level.

A check by The Star showed several places were affected by floods, including Bukit Pengorak and the Kuantan-Jabor trunk road, which was closed to light traffic.

Resident Wong Swee Fock, 33, said his terrace house in Taman Pelindung Pantai was knee-deep in water.

He had packed his belongings to prepare for evacuation should the weather worsen.

A meteorological department statement said Kuantan and some parts of Pahang could expect downpour and drizzle until this morning.

The department warned against beach activities, sea trips and activities on oil platforms.
