A man is suing a doctor after claiming that a botched circumcision caused him mental and emotional trauma.
Lu Qi Hong, 35, is accusing Dr Chen De Bao, who runs East Coast Medical Centre, of poor technique during the surgery which took place in March 2010.
He said the doctor had cut away too much foreskin during the procedure, resulting in a slew of medical problems, according to Lianhe Wanbao.
Mr Lu sued Dr Chen in the High Court in March this year, claiming $28,875 in medical fees, related expenses and a loss of income.
In court documents, Mr Lu said he now suffers from mental and emotional trauma.
He added that following the surgery, his wound started bleeding when he got home. He had to return to hospital to undergo emergency treatment.
Mr Lu claimed that his wound became infected and he had to undergo painful reconstruction and skin grafting procedures.
That was not the end of his problems.
Mr Lu also claimed he has been suffering from erectile dysfunction since August last year and has been unable to have sexual intercourse.
He is married and has a daughter but he will no longer be able to have children naturally.
He may suffer from penile contraction in the future and will have to return frequently for check-ups.
In his defence, Dr Chen has denied Mr Lu’s claims and maintained that he had explained the procedure, risks and side effects to his patient before the surgery.
Dr Chen said he stated that the procedure had taken 45 minutes and Mr Lu had not complaint about any discomfort during the surgery.
The doctor added that his patient did not return to the clinic the next day for a follow-up checkup but only returned later with a complaint of rashes.
According to the doctor, Mr Lu was prescribed an ointment for his rash and he never returned to the clinic after that visit.
