UMNO actually had more votes than any other party. It took 78 out of 220 seats. PKR only won 48 seats. Mad Hatter’s party lagi worse - only 12. What did UMNO in was it’s coalition partners - MCA won only 1 seat and MIC got wiped out. Basically, there was no Malay tsunami under the old electoral system. Just a small shift was enough to give PH a slim majority in Parliament. However, PH can now reform the electoral system so it no longer gives more weight to the rural (mostly Malay) voters. That will be the real tsunami.
