A kindergarten in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province was probed after an online post revealed that parents were charged 80 yuan (US$12.82) a month for teachers to hug their child, today's Yangtze Evening Post reported.
A blogger known as "Langmanhongchen" said his friend's daughter was attending the Shangmao Kindergarten in the city's Jiangdu District and the school charges 80 yuan a month for the so-called hugging fee.
With that fee, children would be hugged by their teachers as they arrive in the morning and would be hugged again as they leave in the afternoon, he said in the post.
He said the kindergarten claimed that the teacher's hugging will made students confident and give them good mood at school.
Some parents told the newspaper that they knew their children were hugged by the teachers every day but they had no idea about the hugging fee. One said the fee was disguised as "quality education fee."
The district education bureau said the hugging fee violated the rules and should be returned to parents if it was confirmed. The case is still under investigation.
