PD couple arrested after newborn's body found with stab wounds
By SARBAN SINGH
PORT DICKSON: A young couple here is being probed for murder after police found the remains of a newborn baby, with injuries believed to have been caused by a knife.
Port Dickson OCPD Supt Maslan Udin said they received a report from the district hospital here at 11.15am Tuesday (Jan 21) that an 18-year-old girl had sought post-natal treatment but could not produce her baby when asked.
"Police immediately went to check and we found the remains of a baby girl stuffed in a bag in a room of a house here.
"The victim also had chest injuries which we believe were caused by a sharp object," he said on Wednesday (Jan 22).
Supt Maslan said police detained the mother and her 21-year-old lover in follow-up operations.
He said they also seized a knife which was believed to have been used in the crime.
"Our preliminary investigation leads us to believe that the suspects committed the crime as they didn't want their families to know that the girl had given birth.
"The case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said, adding that they will seek a remand order on the couple.
The male suspect is unemployed while the mother works part-time at a fast food outlet.
