Kidnappers of used-car dealer nabbed

Taipei, Feb. 13 (CNA) Seven suspects who allegedly kidnapped a used-car dealer in Taichung earlier this month were arrested Friday, the police said.
The suspects, six vehicles, equipment such as tasers and NT$370,000 (US$11,790) in cash were found in searches conducted in Miaoli County, Keelung City and Yunlin County, after the police tracked down the cars the kidnappers used.
The hostage, surnamed Liao, was released safely on Feb. 12 in Changhua County before the agreed-upon-ransom of NT$200 million (US$5.35 million) was paid, after being kidnapped while driving with his girlfriend in downtown Taichung on Feb. 4.
Though Liao emerged safely from the ordeal, there were several tense moments. The suspects at one point threatened that Liao's family would receive the 37-year-old's "ear" and "finger" if they failed to prepare the money.
