Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) is a 570-bed general and acute care public hospital in Yishun

The total development cost of KTPH was estimated at about $674m ($555m for buildings, $119m for furniture & equipment). This is fully funded by the Government. The hospital has been named Khoo Teck Puat Hospital to recognize the contribution of $125 m ($100m upfront and another $25m over the next five years) by the Estate of Khoo Teck Puat.

So.... you pay 18.5% of the costs, you get a hospital named after you.....

I feel the govt should have named the hospital after Ee Peng Liang instead.

Ee Peng Liang may not have $125 million to give, but he gave so much to Singapore as Mr Charity.

It's sad they prefered the cash of other people.......

It is very sad to read such a news. It is only costs SGD680million to build a hospital. However, Singapore spent SGD380million on Youth Olympic alone.

To be fair, there's already a precedent of naming hospitals after rich bastards (read: philanthropists), for example, Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Certain sporting arenas may follow.

Tan Tock Seng donated his money whilst he was still alive.....

Khoo Teck Puat died without donating to the hospital. His estate donated in exchange for the right to get the hospital to be named after Khoo.

Foreign born Minister of Health allowed for this sale........ so sad..... Selling Singapore to the highest bidder.....

We already have a host of names for places.

Why wasn't Singapore General Hospital named after the Parsi philantrophist, Mistri who gave huge sums of money to it.

What has happened to the Bowyer Block and Mistri Wing?
