SINGAPORE - A woman was stabbed at the void deck of a Housing Board block in Queenstown on Thursday night (Oct 11).

The attack, which took place at Block 146 Mei Ling Street, resulted in the woman being taken to hospital with multiple lacerations.

A 29-year-old man was arrested by police about 10 hours later for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted to the incident at 10.48pm. The victim was taken to the National University Hospital.

It is believed she suffered multiple lacerations, and the hospital was told to be on standby to receive her.

On Thursday night, Mr Kenny Ng, who lives in the opposite block, said he looked out of his third-floor window when he heard shouting from Block 146.

Mr Ng, 46, who works in procurement, said he saw a man and a woman in a struggle, before the man pushed the woman into a pillar and then pinned her down on the ground.

He immediately called the police and went downstairs to help the woman.

According to Mr Ng, the woman looked to be in her late 20s.

She was lying in a pool of blood but was conscious, and she told him she had lost her mobile phone.

In response to queries from ST, the police said they was alerted by the public at 10.50pm that a woman was stabbed by a man at the location.

Through ground inquiries and with the aid of closed-circuit television footage, Clementi Police Division officers identified the suspect and arrested him on Friday at 9am.

ST understands that the incident was due to personal grudges between the suspect and the victim, who both knew each other.

When ST went to the scene at 12.50am on Friday, a pool of blood could be seen at the foot of a pillar, with the trail of blood stretching across the void deck to the stone table and stools.

At about 10.45am on Friday, four plainclothes police officers took the suspect, who had shoulder-length hair and was in handcuffs, back to the scene for about five minutes, before leaving in two unmarked cars.

Residents at the block and the surrounding blocks told ST that they heard shrill screams from a woman late on Thursday night.

"I was doing my homework, when I heard a woman scream. It was very shrill. Then I heard someone rushing down the stairs," said student Jeanette Salim, 16, who lives on the third floor of the block.

The police said the man will be charged in court on Saturday with voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon.

If found guilty, he could be jailed for life. He could also be jailed for up to 15 years, fined and caned.

The man who allegedly stabbed a woman in Queenstown earlier this week — leaving her with severe injuries — was charged in court on Saturday (Oct 13).

Muhammad Faizal Mohamed Salleh, 29, faces one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, an offence that carries a maximum jail term of 15 years, with caning, and/or fine, if convicted.

Court documents showed he allegedly stabbed Ms Noordilah Fadilah with a 15cm knife without handle, on the right side of her body, leaving her with "multiple puncture wounds".

He is alleged to have committed his offence at around 11.45pm on Thursday.

Ms Noordilah, who is in her 20s, remains warded in the Intensive Care Unit.

The victim was taken to the National University Hospital (NUH) conscious but in critical condition. TODAY had earlier reported that she was believed to have suffered a cut in her back and lacerations on her right earlobe, right shoulder and elbow, and below her right armpit. As of Friday evening, her condition is understood to be stable.

Police said that Faizal was arrested on Friday at 9am, after officers from the Clementi Police Division managed to establish his identity through ground enquiries and closed-circuit television footage.

He is understood to have been nabbed at his mother's place in Teck Whye.

Faizal was offered no bail, and will return to court on Oct 26. He will be remanded for the next two weeks in the Institute of Mental Health for psychiatric observation.
