Bhaskara Pillai Sivaprasad, 46, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of causing hurt to Madam Rajeshwari Nair by hitting her with an umbrella several times and causing a fracture of her left middle finger. The assault took place at their Yishun Avenue 5 home on April 19 last year.
Four hours later, the sales executive punched his 35-year-old wife on her eyes and forehead, and used a phone charger to swing and hit her on her back, causing multiple bruises on her eyes, forehead and back. The couple have since divorced, and he has custody of their two children. The court heard that Bhaskara got into a dispute with his wife, a senior staff nurse, that morning after she refused to shower and pray.
That afternoon, following further misunderstandings, he assaulted her with the umbrella. Later that day, he assaulted her again after an argument. He could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000 on each charge.
