Over 192,000 drug cases recorded

A total of 192,857 drug abusers and addicts were identified nationwide last year.

Malays made up the largest group, with 145,877 cases, followed by Indians (14,935) and Chinese (14,861).

Drug abuse was also prevalent among Sabahan and Sarawakian natives, with 9,322 and 5,530 cases recorded, respectively.

Meanwhile, 2,332 cases fell under the “others” category, which includes various ethnic groups.

Nada to expand workforce and community efforts

To address the rising drug problem, Nada plans to expand its workforce in line with amendments to the Drug Dependents (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act.

This expansion will enhance its capacity to manage treatment, rehabilitation, enforcement, and prevention efforts.

Additionally, the agency will continue strengthening local community involvement through initiatives like the Community Mobiliser Programme, which focuses on improving prevention and monitoring, particularly in rural areas.
