SINGAPORE: A woman's body was found in waters off Kemaman, Terengganu, on Wednesday (Aug 14), Chinese portal 8world.com reported, as the search continued for two Singaporeans who went missing while kayaking.
Family members of Ms Puah Geok Tin have been notified but formal identification has yet to take place, the report said.

According to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), a local fisherman found the body at about noon.
The authorities were transporting the body to the Kemaman police station.
Ms Puah, 57, and Mr Tan Eng Soon, 62, were separated from a group while kayaking near the Endau islands last Thursday.
Earlier on Wednesday, their family members identified the personal items in their kayak, which was found by local fishermen off Kuantan the day before.

Also found were other items, including food rations, Mr Tan’s passport, two purses with money, a mobile phone, a bag of clothes, identity card and a paddle.
MMEA Mersing zone director Haris Fadzillah Abdullah said family members confirmed that the items belonged to Mr Tan and Ms Puah.
They also confirmed that the kayak was the one used by the pair when they went missing, he added.
Noting that the pair's water bottles were not in the kayak, Ms Puah’s son Louis Pang said this provided “some hope” for the family.
"The kayak was a clue, out of the vast area of the sea, it was a clue for us. At the same time it was worrying for us because of the food rations inside, it’s something we are worried about.
"But we are still keeping very high hopes for them to come back safely," he said.
Mr Haris said on Wednesday that they would widen the search to cover Kuantan, Pahang.
“The search and rescue (SAR) mission involves 10 marine assets of MMEA, police, Fire and Rescue Department, and Royal Malaysian Navy, covering 451 square nautical miles with 119 rescuers from various agencies,” he said.

SAR personnel had also scoured the islands around Endau waters at the request of the families of Tan and Puah.
“For the past two days, the sea has been rough with waves of between 1.5m and 3m high, which is dangerous to small boats,” he added.
Mr Pang thanked the authorities for their help in finding his mother and Mr Tan.
“I really want to thank the marine police, the Malaysian Navy, the police and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for really putting so much effort to come and help us in this search,” he said.
“It has been six days, and I believe a lot of them had very little rest. They are doing all that they can to help us ... We’re very thankful for all their support.”
Mr Pang said earlier on Wednesday that their family and friends really missed Ms Puah.
“I love my mum a lot,” he said. “Our family members are very close. There are so many things I want to tell her. I just hope she comes back safely.”
Editor's note: An earlier version of this article said that the woman's body was that of missing Singaporean kayaker Ms Puah Geok Tin. 8World has since updated its report to say that formal identification has not taken place yet.

50 kayak your head. Tempting sea god to take you

Should have climbed Mount Everest instead. If you die near the summit, no need to retrieve corpse. And your body will be mummified and well-preserved. No need to give your hard-earned money to unscrupulous funeral directors.

A good stinky is a dead stinky.

Can fertilize Malayan territory at least.

Why don't he put his money where his mouth is n pay both gahmens the cost of the search. Talk is cheap when u not paying the bills.

Hmmm...maybe the missing Tan should be a suspect or person of interest in this homicide.

I remember the report about the 2 sinkees lost in Johor jungle recently. After intense SAR they were found by chopper. After recovery they came back to the firemen with a gift of.... A box of KFC chicken meal.

Firemen must be thinking SGD drop so much already?

If you're going to get lost in the jungle it helps to put your SAF/NS jungle survival and topographical skills to good use.

You need a compass and map (not Google Maps, there may be no reception), flashlight etc.

But if you bump into a harimau, good luck.

Malaysia calls off search for missing Singaporean kayaker

The search operations for missing Singaporean kayaker Tan Eng Soon was called off at 9pm on Sunday night, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said in a press release yesterday.

Director of the Johor Maritime division, First Admiral (Maritime) Aminuddin Abdul Rashid, said in the press release: "Search and rescue (SAR) operations were terminated after no new clues were discovered, following the discovery of the female victim on Aug 14."

He added that the search would be reactivated if new clues are found.

Mr Tan, 62, and Madam Puah Geok Tin, 57, were kayaking around the Endau islands near Mersing, Johor, on Aug 8 with 13 others when they drifted away from the group amid rough conditions and went missing.

On Aug 13, the pair's double kayak and personal belongings were found near Tanjung Gelang, which is close to Kuantan Port in Pahang and about 30km south of Kemaman in Terengganu state.

A day later, Madam Puah's body was found floating five nautical miles east of Kuala Kemaman by local fishermen.

The SAR operations lasted 10 days and involved 155 personnel, five air assets and 11 marine assets from agencies including the Royal Malaysia Police, Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, Royal Malaysian Navy and Malaysian Civil Defence Force.

Praising the efforts of the maritime community, fishermen and other locals, First Admiral (Maritime) Aminuddin said: "MMEA commends the highest honour to all parties involved directly or indirectly."

In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) expressed its "deep appreciation to the Malaysian government and all Malaysian agencies" for their help in the SAR operations.

"We have been heartened by the support and assistance of ordinary Malaysians from all walks of life, especially the fishermen in the area who played a critical role in the recovery efforts. We express our deepest sympathies to the families of the two Singaporeans involved in a mishap... Our thoughts and prayers are with the families during this difficult time."
