It was the final big campaign moment before Election Day in a 100-day sprint full of big campaign moments: Vice President Kamala Harris standing before an estimated crowd of 75,000 with the White House behind her, asking Americans to imagine something they have never seen before — a Black woman as president of the United States working in the Oval Office on their behalf. A bookend to her address at the Democratic National Convention, the speech offered a vision of the country turning away from “another petty tyrant” and toward a leader who grew up marching alongside civil rights activists who saw an inclusive America.
“It is a choice about whether we have a country rooted in freedom for every American,” she said. “Or one ruled by chaos and division.”
