CONTRARY to popular belief, women don't gather only to shop, eat or gossip about men. There are times when women meet for intellectual discussions on timely and interesting subjects, such as football.

It is simply not true that most women lack the ability to appreciate the finer aspects of football.

Who else can better admire the fine qualities of the male physique? Especially one chiselled by hours of training. And there are plenty of them on television right now. All those taut, rippled muscles and strong legs running around the pitch provide ample reason for women to assemble not just for shopping.

You get to enjoy the display of male virility on screen without having to suffer the piquant aroma of perspiration-soaked jerseys.

Fortify yourself for such heart-racing pursuits with nerve-calming fried rice.

Round up the girls and have your own World Cup get-together. Why hang out with your men? They simply will not understand why a footballer who cannot score goals can still score points with the girls.

INGREDIENTS

1 chorizo rioja or any other dried sausage of your choice, sliced.
1 can of garbanzo beans
1 tomato, diced
1 egg
2 cups of uncooked rice
1 1/2 cups of water
1 large onion, chopped
1 1/2 tsp paprika
1 1/2 tsp sea salt
Black pepper
4 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
Coriander for garnish

METHOD


Cook the rice with water in a rice cooker. Set aside.


Heat 2 tbsp of olive oil in the skillet. Saute half of the chopped onion until translucent. Add the sliced chorizo and fry until sizzling brown. Then throw in the garbanzo beans.


Add 1/2 tsp paprika and a pinch of salt. Remove mixture from the skillet and set aside.


Heat the remaining olive oil in the skillet and add the rice. Saute the remaining chopped onion and diced tomato. Then add in the chorizo and garbanzo beans mixture.


Make space in the middle of the skillet and pour in the egg. Using a wooden spoon, quickly stir the egg and mix thoroughly with the rice. Fry until the mixture loses its soggy texture.


Add extra virgin olive oil and then season with the remaining paprika, sea salt and pepper.


Garnish with coriander and serve.
