Not one but twice! Can you believe it?
PAP spin: Seng Han Thong is well liked by Yio Chu Kang residents !!

From CNA:
“Residents of Yio Chu Kang and those who have been working closely with Member of Parliament Seng Han Thong have expressed concern over Sunday’s incident where a man threw thinner at the MP and set him on fire.”
“They described Mr Seng, who is also the adviser to the Taxi Operators’ Association, as someone who is always willing to help.”
“Residents in Mr Seng’s ward were also taken aback by the attack. One of them said: “MP Seng Han Thong is very kind to all the residents here. This case is very unfortunate.”
“I feel that he’s a good man – not proud and very approachable,” another added.
EDITORS’ NOTE:
Concerned that the unprecedented attack on PAP MP Seng Han Thong by a resident may tarnish the government’s image, the state media has been working overdrive to dispel any lingering doubts about Mr Seng’s ‘popularity’ with his residents.
Residents were quoted, but no names were given and the ones filmed gave very vague, non-specific replies.
To be fair to Mr Seng, most residents interviewed by The Singapore Enquirer (watch the video here) described Mr Seng as “not bad” and “quite okay”. But there’s a caveat - many claimed they do not know him well in person or has no personal contact with him.
Singaporeans are generally quite polite and diplomatic by nature. They are unlikely to speak bad of another person especially in public. However, certain subtle signs can lead us to decipher the meaning behind their “praise”:
1. If Mr Seng Han Thong is indeed very “nice”, “approachable” and “helpful” as described by the state media, the residents interviewed will be effusive in their praise of Mr Seng. They would be able to recall specific incidents in which Mr Seng had lent a helping hand to them after 3 years as their MP.
2. Their non-verbal language when describing Mr Seng came across as nonchalant and indifferent which is unlikely had they really loved and respected Mr Seng.
3. The 4th uncle in the interview obviously had heard some negative feedback about Mr Seng and he tried to put it diplomatically by going around in circles. The gist of his message is: “Mr Seng is not present at the weekly Meet-the-People session at times and instead delegate a grassroots leader in his place who may not have helped the residents much.”
According to some residents the team spoke to and who declined to be filmed, Mr Seng Han Thong can be quite blunt and direct at times giving some the impression of being arrogant, condescending and insensitive.
Are there any Yio Chu Kang residents who are amongst our readers ? Please share with everybody here what kind of MP Mr Seng Han Thong really is.
