SINGAPORE: Minister of State for Transport Josephine Teo said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will not hesitate to penalise SMRT following a second security breach at its train depot.

She said the government adopts a zero-tolerance attitude of such incidents in order to ensure the security of Singapore's transport system and commuters.

Mrs Teo was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a Circle Line emergency preparedness exercise at Buona Vista Station on Saturday morning.

She said the latest breach was a very serious incident and that "any breach is one too many".

She added that SMRT has been asked to give the police and LTA a full account of what had happened.

She expects SMRT to take immediate action to plug any gaps in its security system.

SINGAPORE: Minister of State for Transport Josephine Teo said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will not hesitate to penalise SMRT following a second security breach at its train depot. Dear Josephine, did the penalties help prevent the second incident? How do penalties help?

She said the government adopts a zero-tolerance attitude of such incidents in order to ensure the security of Singapore's transport system and commuters.
Nice sounding words like ZERO TOLERANCE are just that - nice sounding but means nothing at all. Unless people get sacked, it is NOT "zzero tolerance. Try something else, please, Josephine.

Ha ha, "emergency preparedness", what a co-incidence. Sort out the fences, the cameras facing the correct directions, etc first. These are the basics of basics of emergency preparedness, Josehphine dear.

She said the latest breach was a very serious incident and that "any breach is one too many".
Wow, I am impressed by such cliches, another one of the many which spews from her mouth. Make up your mind, Joesphine, is it ZERO TOLERANCE or is the latest breach ONE TOO MANY? Ministers should be clear in their communications.

She added that SMRT has been asked to give the police and LTA a full account of what had happened.
You mean, if they are not asked, they would not have given. Naughty, naughty, these highly paid CEOs.

She expects SMRT to take immediate action to plug any gaps in its security system.
Yawn, yawn. What gaps? What security systems?

The kind of comments made by our ministers really take the cake. This minister's response is almost as good as WKS's when asked to comment on Mas Salamat escape in Parliament - " Mas Salamat is either in Singapore or he is not." At that time, 'it cannot be helped' was not fashionable yet.

I really don't know what else to say.

tok cock only. pls lah, we all know...u need to say something only mah...

I remember hearing from the news that preliminary findings revealed security guard did not make his rounds. What if the security was from an outsourced security company? Have bad vibes that Tai Ji performance will be coming on stage soon. :D

How many Malaysian in power of certain bodies and benefited their Malaysian contractors ?

If it had been a bomb that had set off and killed many commuters, instead of a stupid graffiti, would she still be angry? Why not take it as something similar and go from there because by the time it really happen to be a bomb getting angry will be too late.

Don't be angry, take the necessary steps to ensure it will never happen again. Heads must roll for this 2nd incident.

Ah Seng was around for so many years, when MSK was weeding in Johor, what if, the terrorist bombed the trains, Josephine and her likes will still be around, collect fat pay checks with bonuses. That is uniquely YOUR SINgapore, whereas in any part of planet earth, "head will roll"!!

The failings can be attributed to those in SMRT who employed the security firm and expect them to perform. Whether they did or did not do a good job can only be assessed by supervising their job performance. How then can they assess without supervision? By not having any incidents? It shows that the SMRT Management has a very relaxed view of our safety. Yet they have a constant reminder to commuters to keep a lookout for possible threats.

Dun know why any problem that is faced by them is always very elusive and difficult to solve like that. Choa Chu Kang LRT is another one that has so many reviews and re-reviews since the day it was launched until lost count.
