His white Spyker C8 Spyder convertible had allegedly been damaged at a workshop here.
But instead of getting it repaired, Sultan Ibrahim Ismail demanded that the workshop, Hong Seh Motors, pay him US$287,000 (S$390,000).
This was the amount Sultan Ibrahim, who is the Sultan of Johor, forked out for the sports car, which he bought from a car dealer in Beirut, Lebanon, about two months ago.
Sultan Ibrahim, who is in his 50s, appointed law firm Allen & Glenhill to act for him, and his representative also filed a police report about the damage.
The New Paper understands the law firm was going to send a letter of demand to Hong Seh last week asking for compensation.
But on Tuesday, it was understood that a representative of the dealer in Beirut paid the money to the sultan's representative, even before the letter of demand was sent out.
It is not known why the money came from Beirut. Hong Seh, the only agency in the region authorised to repair Spyker cars, declined to comment when contacted.
