JOHOR BARU: Johor police have set up a special team, with the participation of bank management officials, to tackle automated-teller machine (ATM) robbery.

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the move was initiated following the spate of ATM robberies this year with the latest being an attempt by culprits to cart away an ATM at a bank in Taman Tasek here on Saturday.

"A special meeting to be chaired by Johor deputy police chief Datuk Ismail Yatim will be held with the banks to find an approach in preventing such crimes," he told reporters after visiting motorcycle patrol personnel L/Corporal Mohd Redzuan Mustafar at Sultan Ismail Hospital here Sunday.

Mohd Redzuan, 32, was injured after falling off his motorcycle when a Proton Wira car with two men trying to evade police hit the machine along Jalan Masai Lama/Kampung Baru Plentong here at 12.50 am on Sunday.

In another development, Mohd Mokhtar said the 'Ops Cantas' was ongoing and police would be issuing the list of wanted people soon. - Bernama
