Johor bad cops punished
JOHOR BARU: Disciplinary action has been taken against more than 200 police personnel in the state this year for various infringements. “Some of the personnel have been suspended and others demoted and even sacked from the force,” Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said.
He added that he would go all out to weed out the bad hats in the force, in line with the 4P strategy unveiled by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar recently. “In any organisation there are bad hats, but I will not tolerate any unruly behaviour from my men,” he told a press conference at the state police headquarters here yesterday.

DCP Mohd Mokhtar said any complaint against policemen would be investigated fairly, without fear or favour. “The state has more than 8,000 police personnel but only a few are problematic. We will act on the matter as the actions of these few paint a bad image of the police. “Evil triumphs when good men do nothing,” he said, and called on the public to report any wrongdoing by policemen instead of criticising the force.
He said the state police would also strengthen its disciplinary unit to closely monitor any infringements by policemen. On a separate matter, DCP Mohd Mokhtar said police rounded up 41 illegal immigrants, believed to be involved in more than 50 crime cases in the state in several raids in Nusajaya and Skudai recently.
