HULU TERENGGANU: A jobless man who failed to secure a RM30 loan from his ex-wife struck back in cruel fashion – by splashing acid on her, his eight-year-old daughter and two others. In the 2am attack at Kampung Sekayu here, Cek Ku Zaimah Che Ku Awang, 28, and Nurul Dahyatul Fazlinda Khalib suffered serious facial and body injuries.

The others injured were Cek Ku Zaimah’s mother Minah Omar, 56, and brother Mohd Irfan Firdaus, 28. Met at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah hospital in Kuala Terengganu, Cek Ku Zaimah said her 32-year-old ex-husband had wanted to borrow RM30 from her but she refused. “He insisted that I give him the money as he wanted to find a job in Kuala Lumpur but I ignored him,” she said from her hospital bed.

Che Ku Zaimah said she had divorced her husband after finding out that he was a drug addict. They got married 12 years ago. Recalling the incident, Che Ku Zaimah said her ex-husband stormed into her home at midnight and demanded cash. “All of a sudden he started manhandling me but I managed to ward him off.

He then rushed out from the house and returned a few minutes later with a bottle of acid before splashing it on me”, she said.
Che Ku Zaimah said the family members who came to her aid were also attacked. State Acting CID chief Supt K. Manoharan said police are looking for the man who fled after the attack.

I will never forgive him, says acid attack victim

KUALA TERENGGANU: The woman who was attacked with acid is staying strong – but she will never forgive her husband for scarring their daughter for life.

“I will never forgive the man who harmed my kids. he is not my husband. He is a syaitan (satan). Because of him we are going to have a bleak Hari Raya,” said Che Ku Zaimah Ku Awang when Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said visited her yesterday. Eight-year-old Nurul Dahyatul Fazlina Khalib was so badly disfigured in the acid attack that Ahmad sobbed openly when he saw her.

medical officers and members of the media who accompanied him could not hold back their tears. But Ku Zaimah was strong. “This is takdir (fate),” she was heard murmuring. Speaking to reporters outside the ward, Ahmad said he was saddened by the attack and would render help to the family.

In trauma: Che Ku Zaimah, carrying her two-year-old son Md Irfan Firdaus Mohd, and Nurul Dahyatul Fazlina were seriously injured in the acid attack.

“Even animals have instincts to not harm their offspring. I am baffled how a father could be so heartless,” he said. In the incident, a jobless man splashed acid on his family members after he failed to get a RM30 loan from his ex-wife. Apart from Nurul Dahyatul Fazlina and Che Ku Zaimah, two others, Che Ku Zaimah’s mother Minah Omar and her brother Mohd Irfan Firdaus, 28, were injured in the 2am attack at their home in Kampung Sekayu in Hulu Terengganu.

The 32-year-old assailant fled shortly after the attack but was detained by police at 12.55pm yesterday at Kampung Kuala Poh, Pasir Nering in Hulu Terengganu. The man had in his possession a 6cm-long knife, several morphine ampoules and a syringe when he was arrested. State Acting CID chief Supt K. Manoharan said the man tried to escape upon seeing the police team but was detained after a brief struggle. He tested positive for drugs.

Acid attack girl back at school

HULU TERENGGANU: Acid attack victim Nurul Dahyatul Fazlinda Mat Haizan, eight, has nothing to worry about at school with a classmate like Nurul Ain Rosyaddi.

“If anyone teases Nurul, I will come to her defence,” declared Nurul Ain as she took her seat next to Nurul in their Year Three class at SK Padang Setar here when school reopened yesterday.

Nurul, who had acid splashed on her by a relative on Aug 15 during a family quarrel, came to school without wearing a special face mask which she claimed caused her discomfort and skin irritation.

Starting afresh: Nurul sharing a moment with Nurul Ain at their school SK Padang Setar after the new school term begins Monday.

The two girls have been classmates from Year One and Nurul Ain said she hoped her classmate would get well soon.

Nurul told reporters she had slept early last night so she could wake up in time for school.

The school’s senior assistant (student affairs) Engku Haripah Muda picked up Nurul at her Kampung Sekayu home at about 7.30am.

Hulu Terengganu district education officer Shafruddin Ali visited the school while the girl’s mother Che Ku Zaimah Che Ku Awang, 29, and brother Muhammad Irfan Firdaus, three, came a bit later.

Nurul had kept to herself after the attack and often asked when her face would get back to normal.

The acid attack during the family quarrel also injured Che Ku Zaimah, Muhammad Irfan Firdaus and his grandmother Minah Omar, 56.

Shafruddin said he had directed the school staff to monitor Nurul and make sure her schoolmates do not tease her. — Bernama
