The young lover of a drug dealer in Zhenjiang in eastern China's Jiangsu province accidentally exposed her boyfriend's illegal business after police found hundreds of photos on her phone of her posing with 200,000 yuan (US$32,000) in banknotes.
Police have been investigating the known head of a local drug ring surnamed Chen, in his 50s, who had supplied drugs to a younger dealer who has been selling and using a large amount of drugs around a university in Zhenjiang since June. The authorities had failed to obtain firm evidence connecting the drug selling to Chen, as he is an experienced operator who knows how to cover his tracks, according to the People's Daily.
The police got their breakthrough when they questioned people close to Chen and noticed certain photos in the cell phone of his young girlfriend, who had been arrested before for taking drugs. In one of the photos, the young woman, surnamed Fu, holds up her head with her arm and grins to the camera while lying on a bed next to a pile of cash. In another photo, she places her chin on several bundles of 100-yuan banknotes. The photos aroused the suspicions of police that Fu had a connection to Chen, as she worked at a hostess bar and the money could not possibly be hers.
Officers this week stopped Chen's luxury car at a toll station in the city. A search of the vehicle turned up drug paraphernalia and 1 kilogram of narcotics. The police arrested Chen and two other suspects and sent Fu to undergo rehabilitation, according to People's Daily.
