SINGAPORE — Five separate incidents are being investigated by authorities, after a total of 23 people were reported to have gastroenteritis symptoms after consuming mooncakes from Mdm Ling Bakery.
One individual was hospitalised after eating the bakery's Mao Shan Wang snowskin mooncakes, and has since been discharged, the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said in a joint media release on Friday (1 October).
The other affected individuals either sought outpatient treatment, self-medicated, or recovered without treatment.
Gastroenteritis is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines which causes vomiting and diarrhoea.
Stopping sales of mooncakes, recalling those distributed or sold
The mooncakes were imported by Mdm Ling Bakery and sold at various retail points in Singapore. SFA has directed the importer to stop the sale and movement of the product immediately, and recall those which have been distributed or sold. Those who have purchased the product are advised not to consume it. Those who have done so and have concerns about their health should seek medical advice.
