Japanese charged with outrage of modesty

By Elena Chong

A JAPANESE national was charged in court on Wednesday with molesting a waitress in November 2010.

Tange Tomio, 39, a manager of an oil company, allegedly lifted up the 28-year-old woman's skirt and stroked her left thigh at a bar along Havelock Road at about 11.30pm on Nov 23.

A pre-trial conference has been fixed for July 25 2011.

If convicted, Tange - represented by Mr Lionel Tan - faces a jail term of up to two years, fine, caning or any combination of the punishments.
