<!-- end left side bar --> <!-- story content : start --> A MOTHER of three, who was let off once for abusing her second daughter, was on Monday jailed 10 months for repeatedly pouring hot water on the same girl in an outburst at home. The judge ordered that the name of the woman should not be published as a minor was involved. The victim, now aged four and her five-year-old sister were previously placed in the grandmother's care since birth until February last year when she had a heart attack.
Soon after, their mother gave birth to a son, now 1 1/2 years old. On March 5 2010, the mother lost her temper when the girl said she wanted to return to her grandmother's house. Boiling with fury, she filled a cup with hot water from the flask and poured it over her daughter's head. Even when the girl fled in pain, the mother continued torturing her for 15 minutes. She then called and lied to her husband that she had accidentally spilled hot water on the child.
He rushed home to take the scalded child to the clinic but was told to go to KK Women's and Children's Hospital as the injuries were serious. Hospital staff called the police. Investigations then revealed that last October, the woman had been warned for caning the girl with a clothes hanger. She was not to re-offend within a year but within five months she turned on the girl again. Her one-month jail sentence for caning the girl will run concurrently with the other 10-month sentence. The three children are now in foster care arranged by MCYS as the father is unable to care for them alone.
