A COUPLE wanting to place their belongings in an empty locker before venturing onto the Mummy ride at Universal Studios Singapore in Sentosa on June 7 ended up with someone else's locker instead.
Han Candy, 26, and boyfriend Joel Teo Jie'Ao, 19, then took the wallet and the portable PlayStation in the locker and walked away. In the wallet, was RM 2,900 ($1,185) and cash amounting to $500, and personal documents. She kept the money and discarded the rest.
On Thursday, she pleaded guilty to theft and was jailed a month. According to court documents. the wallet belonged to Madam Lim Leh Kuan, 66, a Malaysian housewife who was visiting the Studios with her family.
Upon discovering the loss at about 11.45am, she called the police and informed staff members, who immediately checked the video footage. This revealed Han and Teo coming to the lockers 10 minutes after Madam Lim left the area.
They were using the electronic system to get a vacant locker when a technical glitch caused the Malaysian housewife's locker to open instead. They were then seen taking the items.
Han, who is unemployed, and Teo, an ITE student, were tracked down by video surveillance. The money, wallet, its documents, and the portable PlayStation were all recovered.
