Jailed for bribing fall guy

<!-- by line --> By Khushwant Singh

A PROPERTY agent was jailed for two months on Wednesday for bribing a sales promoter to take the rap for a speeding offence. A district court heard that on the evening of Dec 4 two years ago, Huang Yongjie, 28, was driving at 84kmh along Upper Thomson Road, above the 60kmh speed limit. He was unaware that a camera had snapped him committing the offence and he was abroad when the summons was mailed to his home sometime in mid-December 2007. Upon his return, Huang, then a senior associate manager at Propnex Realty, decided to get someone to take the rap as he did not want to be saddled with the six demerit points that came with the offence. The court heard that he had accumulated 12 points already. If his tally hit 24 within two years, he would be disqualified from driving for a year.
